Exploring the Local Church in Mission
The essence of this course is a spirit of exploration. It is essentially about discovery, discovering things about your own community you did not know before, perhaps seeing familiar things in a new light because study of the Bible gives a different perspective on them. At its heart it is a search to discern more clearly what God is calling His people to be and to do in this community – recognising our understanding is always partial and there is always more we have to learn.
A Workbook for all those taking part is provided. The Workbook outlines ten meetings of the group, with about two to three hours work between each meeting, finding out people’s views about the community, talking, listening and collecting information. The course can be completed in three months with weekly meetings or for busy people it may be better to allow six months and meet fortnightly.
For further information, please contact the Learning for Discipleship team.
WHAT IS LEARNING FOR DISCIPLESHIP?
Learning for Discipleship is a new initiative in response to popular demand. It’s an easy and accessible way for Christians to learn more about their faith and grow in discipleship.
It’s made up of a number of courses each consisting of ten 2 hour sessions or equivalent.
There are no entry requirements or previous experience required—everybody is welcome.
You can enrol for a single course or go on to do as many more as you like.
Courses will run on a rolling basis at a number of local learning centres around the Diocese.
You can start a course whenever there is one running at a centre you want to go to.
If you have plenty of time for study you could do more than one course at the same time on different evenings. If life is busy you could do a single course then take a break and come back when you’re ready.
